VII SUPPORTING LETTERS BY ACADEMICS AND SCHOLARS » Professor J.S. Rajput

November 24, 2005

From Professor J.S. Rajput,
Former Director, NCERT, India,
Ex-Chairman, NCTE, India

Dear Ms Ruth Green and Dr. Norma Baker and other Distinguished members of the Board.

I attach a brief CV of mine, just to give you my introduction.

I have seen the communication dated November 8, 2005 from Michael Witzel and also the one from Educators Society for Hertage of India, dated November 19, 2005 . I am msking no observations on the Venom and bias in Witzel's letter or the contentions of ESHI.

I was the person responsible for revising the curriculum framework of school education in India. The task was completed in November 2000. The Communists and some of the leftists intellectuals deeply attached to Marxist doctrine, felt anguished and the issue was take to the National Human Rights Commission of India and the Supreme Court of India. The highest Court of the country; and also the Human rights Commission, totally endorsed the contentions contained in the curriculum frame work, for which the NCERT and myself were responsible. Based upon these, text books were prepared and put to use. Every aspect of the principle of secularism was adhered to in every book prepared under my responsibility.

What was endorsed by the Highest Court, should have been accepted by the self-styled secularists. They did not. Though not a historian, I consulted those on the "other side" also as a part of my duty. I am convinced that the history of India has been distorted by leftist historians for decades together. Their version need be accepted without an independent scrutiny. They are, academics included, very well organized and resourceful to fully 'crush' the dissent even if it is academically sound, research based and well analyzed.

Indian heritage must be viewed in the light of new facts and evidence. No organized group should be allowed to present only one sided view.

How bitter this group can be in demolishing not only facts and evidence but also individuals, could be judged by the vengeance with which they got the Jan Amos Comenius Medal awarded to me by UNESCO on July, 13, 2005 deferred, The award was for outstanding contribution to research and innovations! It has never happened in the history of UNESCO!

Your decision will have implications of far reaching consequences. Please set up your own independent mechanism to ascertain facts. This is all that I would like to submit. If I can be of any help, I would be happy to do so. Let me place on record that though denounced by leftists and communists, I belong only to the children of India and to no political party or ideology.

With regards,
J.S. Rajput
